Rain is Here July 26th, 2009

Jean is at home reading a Stephen King thriller book when she was suddenly surprised by a load roaring thunder. Her heart was beating so fast, it felt like it was going to come out of her chest. Suddenly, the rain poured loud and hard. Jean continued reading her book until she heard a sort of dripping sound. It came near the kitchen.

She listened intently to where the sound is coming from. Jean finally came to a stop near the kitchen counter. The ceiling has a leak. She immediately grabbed the nearest thing she can find to catch the water drops – a Wilton Disney cake pan. She then went to the basement to get a bucket for the cake pan won’t hold that much water. She also took a quick peek inside the fridge to find something to eat. She chose a thick slice of cheese.

When the leaky ceiling was taken cared of, Jean went back to the living room to continue reading her book. She really loved the plot of the story. Jean has been reading it straight for two days and she just can’t put it down. The rain continued to pour all through the night and Jean was still at the same spot in the living room couch reading her Stephen King book.

A 14K White Gold Charm Bracelet Is Enough July 25th, 2009

I like the way white gold looks on by skin tone. I am quite olive skinned which makes the white gold jewelry stand out each time I wear it. Last Christmas, I decided to give myself a treat and bought myself a new addition to my jewelry collection. I have a wide collection of earrings but not of bracelets. I ended up buying a white gold charm bracelet for myself. Although most people would wear these charm bracelets without a specific theme, I thought that it would look better if I picked charms which fit a certain theme. I ended up choosing a charm bracelet with fruit charms. I think that it was enough that I bought a 14K bracelet since this costs a lot cheaper plus I get to wear it everyday without worrying about the scratches that it might have. I am totally happy with my purchase and I wear my charm bracelet each day.

Antique Sewing Machine Cabinet July 25th, 2009

There is usually an indefinable aura around items inherited from your ancestors. They are like a link to your family’s past and therefore should be treated with care that borders on reverence. This is especially true when that link is a mechanical contraption that still functions the way it did when it was purchased years and years ago. Some people actually feel obliged to keep it in good running condition as a way of honoring all their predecessors who took pains at keeping it serviceable.

A good number of sewing machines belong to this select group of mechanical devices that survived into the 21st century. The mass production of sewing machines began two hundred years ago. Most of them were made of cast iron and other heavy materials. It is for this reason that they are still serviceable today.

The first machines were operated with either a hand crank or a treadle. The treadle is a flat foot pedal that drives the sewing mechanism. Hand crank types were placed on the kitchen table when in use and were kept and carried around in their own carrying cases. Treadle versions were mounted on their table or cabinet. When not it use, the machine folded into the cabinet transforming the device into a small table.

An antique sewing machine cabinet was invariably made of hard wood, which was abundant during those times, and thus plenty have also survived with the machines.

Things to Do July 12th, 2009

I will be running lots of errands tomorrow and I am getting tired just thinking about it. First thing in the morning, I am going to head out into the market to get some fresh fish and meat. After that is the baker’s for some freshly baked whole grain bread. I would also be visiting some stores to buy some hot tub accessories that need replacing. Also, I would need a few assorted sizes of nails and screws for my several home projects.

As soon as I get home, I need to clean out the garage to make way for the new storage that I will be installing. My wife has been bugging me for years to have one attached and I will finally make her happy. The storage will be used to tidy old shoes, paint cans, camping supplies and such, just to keep these stuff from further invading my garage floor space.

After tomorrow’s long day, I would be spending an hour soaking in the bathtub with a can of cold beer. It will be tiring but I can do it. As long as I keep my family happy and my home safe and organized, I will do anything.

What to Buy? July 12th, 2009

Claire has been saving money since she has started working. She would have bought anything that she would like but she chose to save her money. Now that she is ready to spend a few bucks, Claire has been busy scouting for appliances and other items to buy.

Claire has always wanted to buy herself a new pair of shoes. This time around, she will be buying a high-quality pair that’s not too expensive. Claire just also learned how to bake and she would love to get herself that new convection toaster oven she saw online. Diamonds are a girl’s best friends and Claire is ready to get herself some bling. She has decided to purchase a small diamond stud earrings as a birthday gift. She is really excited about it.

Claire needs to buy some new makeup too. She just found out that some of the makeup she has been using is already expired. She just kept using them because she thought it would be a waste if she discarded them.

It may seem that Claire is buying a lot of things with her money. But she really deserves it. It has been years since she has bought something for herself.

Remodeling Project July 12th, 2009

Kate is thinking about remodeling her kitchen. She and her husband Jake is thinking about buying new kitchen appliances and their traditionally designed kitchen area just won’t complement the contemporary stainless steel oven and range that they will be purchasing.

The couple have thought about putting up new lighting as well as applying a fresh coat of paint. They are also going to create focal point in the kitchen by making a terrific design using glass mosaic tile.

Kate and Jake are so excited about their kitchen remodeling project. However, they are also worried about being over budget. They really don’t want to go overboard but they do want a beautiful and elegant kitchen.

Kate has always wanted a homey and functional kitchen that is modern and updated. She wants guests to feel at home in her kitchen as she serves them with great food. If Kate likes entertaining, Jake loves them too. Jake often has friends coming over every two weeks for a game of poker or just watch games on TV.

Jake hopes that their kitchen remodeling project goes as planned and will finish in time. Though, he is concerned with the expense, he really wants to give Kate her dream kitchen.

Weekend Routine July 12th, 2009

I woke up today with a smile on my face. It is a weekend after all.

I cooked myself blueberry pancakes and a cheesy omelette for breakfast. I downed my acai capsules with a strong, hot brew of black coffee before proceeding to washing the dishes and preparing my soiled clothes for the laundry. While water for the dryer to go off, I played a game of Devil May Cry on the Xbox 360.

Lunchtime was almost up and I was still playing my game, the laundry was well forgotten as well. As I got my lazy bum of the couch, I fixed myself a tasty cold turkey sandwich and a glass of soda frizz. I spent my afternoon cleaning my room and just sorting some random stuff. I found interesting items that went missing a few months ago as well as several useless items that needed to be thrown ASAP.

It is paradise when you are alone and relaxed. These are the days that you can just lay back and watch time pass. The peace and quiet clears the head and allows fresh ideas and happy thoughts. I can’t wait for the next weekend I can enjoy since it rarely happens nowadays.

Hair Care July 12th, 2009

Our hair is said to be our crowning glory. Hair can make us beautiful or ugly, hence the “bad hair day.” To avoid constantly putting on a hat or pulling your hair back to a ponytail, ensure you have great looking hair everyday by taking great care of it.

Shampoo and conditioner should only be done twice a week and only apply a coin-sized amount during every application. Shampoos can strip off hair’s natural oil, making it dry and dull. Conditioner, although helps protect hair, can also damage it if used frequently. Make sure to use an intensive conditioner once a week to strengthen and improve hair’s appearance.

Using an iron? If you’re still using a metal one, chuck it out the window. Nowadays, the ceramic flat iron is in and it doesn’t damage hair like a metal one does.

Stay out of the sun as much as possible. Hair dries out when exposed to too much heat and sweat. If your work requires you to be outdoors all the time, apply a hair serum or leave on conditioner with SPF to prevent any further damage to your hair.

Drinking supplements such as vitamins and minerals can improve the condition of your hair and skin too.

Dream Home July 12th, 2009

Everyone wants to have a house of their own someday. Some folks envision themselves purchasing a big two story house with white picket fences and a grassy front lawn and gnomes. Others would love to own a simple house but with a huge pool and elegant patio.

I knew someone who has been drawing his own dream home blueprints with an outdoor fireplace plan. It seems that this friend of mine is pretty set on getting his wish come true as he is saving all of his money to buy himself a home and remodel it to his liking.

I also want to own a house someday. Not too grand but not too simple either. I want an elegant house with a sufficient sized backyard and a two car garage. I want to plant trees in my backyard for shade and flowers in my front lawn for beauty. Wouldn’t it be great to finally own a piece of land in your name?

I am renting my own apartment and though, it is not my dream home, it is still my home. But someday, I know my wish will come true I still have to save money and earn even more. For now, my dream home will just be a dream.
